L&T gets Rs 170cr contract from Chinese firm

The heavy engineering division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged a contract valued at euro 28 million (Rs 170 crore) for supply of coal gasifier and syngas cooler assembly to Hebi Coal and Electricity Company, a subsidiary of China-based Zhongyuan Coal Chemical Industry Group.

According to a release issued by L&T to the BSE today, the gasifier assembly and the structure, which is expected to weigh 1,740 MT, will be the world’s largest and heaviest gasifier assembly with a capacity to handle 3,400 tpd of coal. The equipment will be manufactured at L&T’s manufacturing facilities at Powai and Hazira.

M V Kotwal, member of the board and senior executive V-P, L&T, said the manufacture of the gasifier will require transportation of large fabricated sections with on-site assembly, testing and erection.

L&T has supplied several large coal gasifiers to China for ammonia, methanol, olefin and coal-to-liquid fuel projects.
